NBA Pick for April 25

Game: Atlanta Hawks @ Miami Heat
League: NBA
Pick: Miami Heat -4

Reason For Pick:
In last years playoffs Atlanta went 0-4 on the road. Of course they were playing a Celtics team that went on to win the championship. But the Hawks didn't even challenge the Celtics on the road losing each game by an average of 25.25 points. This Heat team is nowhere near as talented as last years Celtics team but I still see them taking it to the Hawks tonight, covering the 4 points and taking a 2-1 series lead.

Bonus NBA Pick: April 23

Game: San Antonio Spurs @ Dallas Mavericks
League: NBA
Pick: Dallas Mavericks -5

Reason For Pick:
This Spurs team is no longer the dominant playoff force we all remember. Their roleplayers aren't as strong as they used to be and no one on their current roster can even come close to filling the shoes of the injured Manu Ginobili. That being said, the Spurs played great in game 2 when they were a desperate team that didn't want to head to Dallas down 2-0 in the series. I believe the Mavs will be the hungrier team tonight and will prevent Tony Parker from shooting anywhere close to the 73% field goal percentage he put up in game 2. Look for the Mavs to come out strong on their homecourt tonight as they did in the 2nd half of the regular season putting up a 15-1 home record since the All-Star break. The 5 point spread is a little dangerous but I still believe the Mavs get it done tonight winning my a margin of somewhere between 6-12 points.

NBA Pick of the Day: April 23

Game: Boston Celtics @ Chicago Bulls
League: NBA
Pick: Chicago Bulls -3

Reason For Pick:
Boston's TD Banknorth Garden is not an easy arena for a visiting team to play in. Yet this young Bulls team ould have easily returned home with a 2-0 series lead. Without KG protecting the rim this aging Celtics team has no way to stop the Bulls' combo of Derrick Rose and Ben Gordon. With a pumped up Windy City crowd backing them up, look for the young Bulls to easily cover the 3 points.

MLB Pick of the Day: April 17

MLB Pick of the Day: April 17
Game: Florida Marlins @ Washington Nationals
League: MLB
Pick: Florida Marlins -1.5
Offered at: +125

Reason For Pick:
The Marlins look to increase their current winning streak to 5 games in this pitching rematch of the season opener. A game which the Marlins won 12-6. Marlins' starter Ricky Nolasco was feeling under the weather that game but was still able to strike out six batters in six innings. Nolasco is 6-1 in his career against the Nationals. National's starter John Lannan did not look good in the opening day loss to the Marlins. Lannan gave up six runs including two home runs. I see the Marlins putting a lot more runs on the board tonight than their Washington counterparts.

MLB Pick of the Day: April 16

MLB Pick of the Day: April 16
Game: Toronto Blue Jays @ Minnesota Twins
League: MLB
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5
Offered at: +115

Reason For Pick:
The Jays bat's have opened up the '09 campaign on fire. Look for their bats to remain hot today against Twin's pitcher Francisco Liriano. Liriano has looked sluggish in his first two starts putting up an early ERA of 6.94. Toronto counters with their ace Doc Halladay. The Jays are averaging 7.3 runs per game this series compared to Minnesota's 3.6 rpg. With Halladay on the mound I see the Jays walking away with at least a two run victory.

MLB Pick of the Day: April 15

Game: Houston Astros @ Pittsburgh Pirates
League: MLB
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates
Offered at: -110

Reason For Pick:
See April 13th pick. These two teams faced off two days ago and the Pirates walked away with an easy 7-0 shut out victory. The Astro's bats have been pathetic so far this year averaging only 2.3 runs a game while hitting .234. Pirates' pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was solid in his 2009 debut holding the St. Louis Cardinals to 2 earn runs over in 6 innings. Injury prone Mike Hampton gets the start for the Astros. I don't think he'll be lasting too deep into the game which means Houston will be turning to their struggling bullpen early in this one.

MLB Pick of the Day April 14

Game: St. Louis Cardinals @ Arizona Diamondbacks
League: MLB
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
Offered at: -137

Reason For Pick:
Card's pitcher Chris Carpenter looked great against the Pirates last week and look for him to look sharp again tonight against a struggling Arizona squad. The Diamondbacks have lost three in a row and have only managed four runs during that stretch. The Card's bats aren't exactly on fire either, but they are finding ways to win and are currently on a five game winning streak. D-backs starter Max Scherzer is fresh of the disabled list and may not be on top of his game tonight.

MLB Pick for Mon Apirl 13

Game: Houston Astros @ Pittsburgh Pirates
League: MLB
Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates -1.5
Offered at: +135

Reason For Pick:
The Astros' bats have started off the season stone cold and rank 29th in the majors with 16 runs over their first 6 games. They head into Pittsburgh's home opener this afternoon having lost four in a row. Astros pitcher Brian Moehler got rocked in his first game of the year, giving up seven runs in 1 2-3 innings against the Cubs. Pirates pitcher Zach Duke looked on top of his game in his season opener holding St. Louis to one earned run in 6 1-3 innings. The Pirates look like a good value bet to cover the run line at +135.

Free Pick for Sun April 12

Game: Boston Celtic @ Cleveland Cavs
League: NBA
Pick: Cleveland Cavs
Offered at: -8

Reason For Pick:
Without Kevin Garnett in the line up I don't think Boston will be able to give the Cavs much of a challenge today. The last time Boston came into Cleveland the Cavs rocked them 98-83 and that was with KG in the line up. Don't believe the politically correct quotes you'll here in the game previews today saying that the Cavs aren't thinking about securing home court for the finals. They are thinking about it and they won't be resting their starters today. As if the Cavs need any extra motivation against their rival Celtics, on top of trying to secure home court in the finals they'll also be trying to tie an NBA home court record of 41-1. Cavs to cover the 8.

Pick of the Day for Sat April 11

Game: Portland Trail Blazers @ Los Angeles Clippers
League: NBA
Pick: Portland Trail Blazers
Offered at: -6.5

Reason For Pick
The Blazers have improved their play on the road lately, winning six of their last eight. Portland destroyed the Clippers in their last meeting back in February, 116 - 87. The Blazers are fighting hard to earn homecourt for the first round of the playoffs and a win tonight will be huge for them. Zach Randolph, Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman will all be in the line up for the Clippers but they have no one who can contain Brandon Roy. In three games vs the Clippers this season Roy has averaged 30.3 points. I fully expect the Clippers to cover the 6.5 points.

NBA Pick for Fri April 10

Game: Charlotte Bobcats @ Oklahoma Thunder
League: NBA
Pick: Charlotte Bobcats
Offered at: -3

Reason For Pick:
A loss tonight for the Bobcats, combined with a Pistons win would eliminate Charlotte from playoff contention. Look for the Bobcats to come into Oklahoma City playing highly motivated ball, knowing their season is on the line. The Thunder on the other hand lost seven out of their last 8 while being outscored by an average of 18.3 points. This huge point differential indicates that some of the Thunder are already thinking more about the off season than their remaining games. I expect the Bobcats to simply want it more and to out hustle the Thunder tonight on their way to covering the 3 points.

NBA Pick for Thurs April 9

Game: Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers
League: NBA
Pick: Denver Nuggets
Offered at: +8.5

Reason For Pick:
A win tonight will clinch the #2 seed for the red hot Nuggets who have been on fire lately having one 8 in a row heading into tonight's battle with the Lakers. Andrew Bynum will return to the Lakers line up tonight but he will have some rust to shake off. The Lakers are going to be on top of their game tonight as well, since they are battling Cleveland for the best record and home court advantage through out the playoffs. But hey, we don't need the Nuggets to win, we just need them to keep it within 8, and considering they are averaging 115 points over their last 5 games I expect them to keep this one close.

NBA Pick for Weds April 8

Game: Detroit Pistons @ New York Knicks
League: NBA
Pick: Detroit Pistons
Offered at: -3.5

Reason For Pick:
Although the Piston now have some breathing room 2.5 games ahead of the Charlotte Bobcats for the 8th and final Eastern Conference playoff spot, they are still fighting to move up to the 7th spot. They currently trail the Bulls by only .5 for the 7th seed. The Knicks have lost 11 of their last 13 including losses to the lowly, Los Angeles Clippers and Sacaramento Kings. Look for Pistons to cover the 3.5 points tonight at MSG.

Pick of the Night

Game: St. Louis Blues vs. Phoenix Coyotes
Sport: NHL
Pick: St. Louis Blues
Offered at: -149

Reason For Pick:
The playoffs have already begun for St Louis. Going into tonight's action the Blues are tied with the Nashville Predators for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Although the Blues are 4-10-1 in their last 15 meetings in Phoenix they head into Phoenix 3-0 this season vs the Coyotes. Look for the Blues to bounce back from a tough OT loss in Dallas Saturday, with a hard fought win tonight.
